The player who gets to break the table has to pick one set from the two. Whoever has the shortest distance from the lower rail after the collision gets to play the first shot. The number 8 is a solid black colored black ball and is also commonly known as the black ball. The solid balls are numbered from 1 to 8, while the rest are labeled as stripes.
